Getting There

Getting to Meemure is no easy task. But there’s only one route so you’re sure not to get too confused. Meemure is approximately 173km from Colombo and 63km from Kandy. 

The route taken to Meemure is through Kandy-Hunnasgiriya-Loolwatte-Meemure. Once you arrive in Kandy, you must travel to Hunnasgiriya, which is approximately 34km from Kandy. You must plan your arrival at Hunnasgiriya carefully because to get to your next destination, Loolwatte, there is only one bus per day. 

Make no mistake, this is the only bus you can take to Loolwatte from Hunnasgiriya. The bus starts from Hunnasgiriya at 9 am and it reaches Loolwatte, some 15km, at around 10:30 or 11 am. On the return trip, starting from Loolwatte at 2 pm, it again reaches Hunnasgiriya at around 4 pm. 

Your next stop will be the Meemure village. Brace yourself for this part, because there are no transport facilities from Loolwatte to Meemure, a distance of roughly 14km. There is no alternative but to trek your way to Meemure. However, it’s simply a mesmerizing experience. You will know you’re on the right trail if you pass the Kaikawale town, which is situated in between Loolwatte and Meemure.
