Air Force jets destroy seven LTTE camps
[01 Nov 2000]

Kfir and MIG 27 jets of the Sri Lanka Air Force successfully launched a surprise attack on a major LTTE complex in Trincomalee yesterday evening, destroying seven camps within the terrorist complex.

Military spokesman Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne said that LTTE's radio communication system in Trincomalee which connects them with Jaffna and Batticaloa was also destroyed in the attack.

According to pilots of the fighter jets some ammunition dumps of the LTTE have also been destroyed from the attack as they had seen fire balls and smoke erupting from the camps.

According to military sources, the Tigers had attempted to attack the Trincomalee harbour last week from this huge complex using heavy mortars. It was also revealed that the LTTE had also used this strategic position to launch attacks on Seruwila, Dehiwatta, Kattaparichchan and other areas under the military control in the Trincomalee district.
