With the spread of Dengue in Matara, the Health Ministry yesterday dispatched a special team of health officials to the area to combat its spread, Ministry sources said. Among the 199 cases that were reported 59 are from Matara. Already Health Minister, W D J Seneviratne has already appointed a six member Special Task Committee to make recommendations to prevent and eradicate Dengue. The programme, which is coordinated by the Provincial Director of Health Services, includes a team of 52 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) who will conduct awareness programmes and clean the area to prevent a further spread of the disease. “ Education authorities in Matara decided yesterday to close 46 schools in the area for two days. The parents were urged to participate in shramadana campaigns to clean school premises,” reports confirmed.
