The new Minister of Education, Susil Premjayanth, revealed that he intends to introduce Information Technology (IT) as a subject in school curriculum from next year. The minister further stated that he would take the necessary measures to expose school education to new trends in IT. As an initial step taken to popularise the subject in schools, a plan has been implemented to establish IT Resource Centres islandwide plus provide school teachers the necessary training to carry out the programme successfully. The sources reported that establishing Language Resource Centres to upgrade the standard of English language in schools is another project that runs Parallel to this project.
