Business community urges lasting settlement
[06 Nov 2000]

The business community urged all political parties to bring an early, peaceful and lasting solution to the war in North East, to overcome the country’s greatest obstacle for greater socio- economic prosperity, sources said.

The request follows LTTE leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran’s willingness to resume peace talks unconditionally through Norway’s special envoy Eric Solheim.

They reiterated that the need for an early end to the debilitating conflict in the North and East through peaceful means and the importance of having consensus among all political parties for such a course, was listed as top priority in the business leaders and Joint Forum of Chambers successive recommendations to the Government, UNP and other political parties as well as the public.
