Sri Lankan expats demand action on Tiger fundraising in Australia

A large number Sri Lankan expatriates gathered outside the Special Broadcasting Station (SBS) Head offices in Melbourne and Sydney saying SBS management was not taking action to curtail fundraising activities by the LTTE, sources revealed.

The Sri Lankan families gathered outside the SBS offices carrying placards and shouting slogans against the management.

The demonstrations were organised by the Society for Peace Unity and Human Rights (SPUR) in Melbourne and Sydney.

Internationally acclaimed journalist Graham Davis exposed in a television programme in October how SBS radio has been infiltrated by agents raising money for the LTTE in Australia.

“ Jay Maheswaran SBS Radio Tamil Radio Programme Coordinator, also the self acknowledged international coordinator of a shadowy organisation called Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) was initially suspended for a short period pending an internal SBS investigation,” sources said.

Even though SPUR provided SBS management with ample evidence on LTTE fundraising and how Prabhakaran solicits funds from Tamils living in Australia, SBS management has completed the internal investigation on Maheswaran and lifted the temporary suspension on him.

Amid LTTE treachery in Australia the British Charity Commission has frozen TRO bank accounts in the UK for suspected terrorist connections.
