The Upcountry People's Front (UPF) President and UNP MP, P. Chandrasekeran, was released yesterday by the CID on a directive by the Attorney General K.C. Kamalasabeyson PC.
He was taken into custody by the Talawakele Police on October 29 and was handed over to the CID on October 30. The CID took Chandrasekeran into custody for questioning by a special team in connection with the several incidents which occured in Talawakele, soon after the Bindunuwewa incident.
According to the CID, investigations are still continuing at Talawakele and in the Nuwara-Eliya Districts.
The CID also said that they have to question several union leaders in the Nuwara Eliya district as well.
Meanwhile, 25 suspects who are alleged to have been involved in several criminal acts in the Nuwara Eliya and Talawakele Police divisions were taken into custody by a special police team conducting investigations into the incidents which occurred on last Saturday and Sunday., said Senior SP D.A. de Fonseka, head of the Special Operation Division in the Nuwara Eliya District.
The investigators also have taken into custody seven persons who were alleged to have looted the shops setting fire to them.
