The UNP MP’s group meeting which was held yesterday proposed to call for a debate on Government Policy Statement at the Parliament ceremonial opening which is being held today, highly placed UNP source confirmed. According to the prevalent Constitution the opposition has the right to ask for a Government Policy Statement and if the Government looses the motion then it stands to be dissolved. The UNP MP’s will wear a black band on their hand to protest against “violence unleashed against Opposition MP’s”. The UNP sources further confirmed, that they will question about the victims of killing of the TULF MP Ashley Nimalanayagam Saundranayagam, harassment of UNP MP’s, Bindunuwewa incident and election malpractice. UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Wip Mahinda Samarasinghe to coordinate with UNP new MP’s on Parliamentary matters and Mr. P P Devaraj was appointed as the Deputy Chief Wip to coordinate with the Tamil MP’s at the yesterday’s meeting.
