LTTE suffers heavy setbacks

During
the last two weeks, as ground troops backed by air and sea cover destroyed a large number of LTTE bases and hideouts, LTTE cadres are now suffering from serious setbacks.
According to the Military Spokesman Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne, Security Forces were able to dealt successfully
deal with the LTTE terrorists in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Mullaitive districts.
In Batticaloa district, the Sri Lanka Air Force pounded LTTE hideouts in the Thoppigala Jungle. The pilots successfully
destroyed major LTTE camps in Thoppigala and Mullaitivu Jungles. The Spokesman further
said that LTTE communication systems were severely crippled by the attacks and
they are facing heavy shortages of medicine, ammunition, fuel and other logistics.
The Navy was successful in attacking and destroying three LTTE boats carrying LTTE suicide bombers when they were approaching the Trincomalee harbour. Military spokesman further stated that the Navy was able to destroy clusters of LTTE boats, which were transporting fuel, lubricants and ammunition. He stressed that the ground troops were successful in pushing back the LTTE in the Jaffna peninsula, following the successful launch of Operation Kinihira, which strengthened and extended areas
under government control.
