LTTE covers its real image to Solheim
[13 Nov 2000]

LTTE complained to the Norwegian peace envoy Eric Solhiem during his recent visit that living conditions were difficult with a severe shortage of food and medicine, sources reported.

Meanwhile the civilians coming from those areas complained that the LTTE continues to rob goods sent to civilians in uncleared areas. Sources further revealed that the lorry loads dispatched to these areas were unloaded by LTTE at their stores and later they issue food items whose expiry date have lapsed, to be distributed to the civilians.

Further the information available revealed that LTTE has shed crocodile tears on behalf of civilians and attempted to mislead the Norwegian peace envoy in order to win the sympathy of the international community.

According to the information released recently from the Special Media Information Centre November 04 to 10, 33 lorry loads to Killinochchi, 23 lorry loads to Mullaitvu, 11 to Mannar and three to the uncleared area in Vavuniya along with fertilizer were dispatched. And in the past the government had never failed to send the food supplies, fertilizer and other essential goods to the North even during the period the LTTE banned transportation of goods by capturing the only access to the North by land. However the government managed to send essential goods by sea which of course was a task far more difficult and costly.

The civilians in the LTTE controlled areas have repeatedly alleged that the LTTE is keeping half of their entitlement of goods for their use. Further they sell kerosene oil and other essential goods at high prices to civilians in uncleared areas.

On the contrary the Sri Lankan government has repeatedly shown its true concern and acted responsibly towards the well being of citizens by breaking all petty racial boundaries. Despite the difficulties faced by the government in finding a safe mode of transport, President Kumaratunga’s government has been annually dispatching school books and uniform material free of charge to all schools in North and East.

However there is no doubt about the fact that Sri Lankan government is the only government in the world that supplies food to the enemy-controlled areas.
