Britain wants to help move forward peace process
[16 Nov 2000]

“Every day the fighting continues, Sri Lanka falls further behind,” British Foreign Office Minister, Peter Hain who is due to visit Sri Lanka next week said, backing the British government to help move forward the peace process in Sri Lanka.

According to Hain, Britain backed new efforts by Norway to broker peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE.

“ There is now a new level of engagement and spirit for the peace process. This whole conflict is holding the country back,” he added.

Hain will meet Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and opposition politicians during his trip.
