British Foreign Office Minster will be in Sri Lanka to share Ulster peace experience
[17 Nov 2000]

British Junior Minister to Foreign Secretary, Peter Hain, said he intends to share the experiences of the North Ireland peace process with the Sri Lankan government when he visits the island next week.

Hain will arrive for a one-day visit on November 22, completing his four day Indian tour.

"I am looking forward to building a personal relationship with the new Sri Lankan government, and will take the opportunity of my visit to hear the views of all communities," commenting his visit, Hain said.

Referring to the recent visit of Norwegian envoy Erik Solheim, Hain said, "We back the Norwegian's role. We want to help take the peace process forwards. That's what my visit will, in part, be destined to achieve."

During his visit Peter Hain will meet Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.
