“The LTTE must remember that they are playing with the future of the nation and Tamil community. The LTTE avoided many chances in the past to arrive at a settlement,” the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Minister of Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the North and Tamil Affairs of the North and East, Douglas Devananda said. Devananda said that the EPDP has no objection to the Government commencing peace talks with the LTTE as the EPDP respects the majority view of the government. “ But we caution the Government, as the past track record of the LTTE is not that good, they may be trying to play the same game they played in the past,” he said. The people in the North East indicated their desire for peace against the LTTE’s warnings not to vote at the last election. They elected members to parliament not to represent them. The LTTE must understand that they can’t play with the lives of the people any more, the Minister said.
