Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, one of the deadliest organizations in the world involved in mass killings is to hold their Heroes Day celebrations in several US schools this weekend. For years, the Tigers have been notable for their expertise with bombs, in particular for attacks in which militant Tigers, often women from a squad known as ‘Freedom Birds’, have denoted body belts: packed with explosives at public gatherings, killing themselves, their political and military targets and almost invariably, large number of civilians besides. Realising the danger, the US State Department decided to include Tamil Tigers separatists on a list of “foreign terrorist organizations during Clinton’s administration. Later, the LTTE unsuccessfully challenged the decision in the courts. With this decision, the LTTE ceased to operate in the United States under its own name but now operates under the name of World Tamil Coordinating Committee (WTCC). This committee operates from 170-10 Cedarcroft Road, Suite I-L, Jamaica, New York 11432. The list of LTTE front organizations has been spread all over the US today. Apart from the World Tamil Coordinating Committee, is also uses various “Sangams” all over the US. The LTTE’s primary front raising and propaganda organizations remain the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Tamil Centre for Human Rights (TCHR) and the Tamil Eelam Economic Development Organization (TEEDOR). Meanwhile, The World Tamil Movement (WTM), considered an LTTE front organization will raise funds for terrorism giving the impression that they are celebrating “Heroes Day” in Toronto, said the Canadian Sri Lankans Against Terrorism (CSLAT). “The celebration organized by WTM in Toronto will be one of the biggest annual fund raising events for the LTTE where they charge $ 10 for entrance and sell numerous propaganda materials,” states CSLAT.
