Funds released to support the displaced

The floods in the Eastern Province were reported to be subsiding yesterday, sources reported. Meanwhile thousands of families in three districts were still displaced. The government has already taken necessary measures to channel extra funds to the worst affected areas.

Further the District Secretary, Ampara stated that nearly 30 per cent of the Ampara district was affected by floods and nearly 10,500 people were displaced while 200 houses were damaged. Two deaths were also reported. 

The Social Services Department, which functions under the government, has already released Rs.1.25 million to meet the basic needs of the flood victims.
