US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Karl F. Inderfurth will visit Sri Lanka early next week. Meanwhile the sources reported that there is no connection between Inderfurth’s visit and Norwegian peace initiative. However the North-East issue would be a main focus of this discussions between Sri Lanka and US. The US proscribed the LTTE and began assisting the Sri Lankan armed forces as a result of the untiring efforts and extensive discussions between the two governments. US embassy spokesman Stephen Holgate yesterday stated that Inderfurth is scheduled to visit Colombo on his first leg of the four-nation tour of South Asian counties. He will also visit India, Nepal and Bhutan.
