Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and US Assistant Secretary of State Karl Inderfurth yesterday exchanged the Sri Lanka’s instrument of ratification of the US-SL Extradition Treaty. This Treaty is already approved by the Sri Lankan Cabinet and the US Senate. The Treaty between the government of the United States of America and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will enter into force on the date of transmittal of the Instrument of Ratification of the United States, Foreign Ministry said in a joint statement issued yesterday. The visit of the Assistant Secretary of State to Sri Lanka at the end of the Clinton administration is the first stop in a South Asian tour which included India, Nepal and Bhutan.
