The Commissioner General of Essential Services has provided Rs.884 million for the distribution of food and other essential services needed by nearly 265,000 persons displaced in the Jaffna Peninsula. There are 674,158 refugees in 24 districts including districts of Jaffna, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara. This number includes refugees displaced during January to date, the Commissioner General of Essential Services, said. Over 30,920 metric tons of food stocks consisting of essential goods such as rice, dhal, sugar and milk food have been shipped to Jaffna and more stocks continue to be shipped to the North, he said. The LTTE who claim to be fighting for the rights of the Tamil people have created chaos in the North East and many people are today displaced with no homes.
