LTTE suspect confess VVIP assassination plot [02 Dec 2000]

Four LTTE suspects including a 45 year old woman was arrested by a special police squad in the early hours of yesterday, along with a haul of explosives and weapons brought to assassinate a VVIP, after an LTTE suspect arrested by the Dehiwala police confessed the plan.

The house was raided at Putur Town in Batticaloa and the police found the explosives and weapons buried in the house and covered with firewood.

The LTTE suspect Jayaprakash who was arrested by Dehiwala police had revealed the information when being questioned by the police. He was arrested on his way to the Immigration and Emigration Department.

The police recovered five kilos of C4 explosive wrapped in a box, a T56, several magazines, 83 rounds of bullets, one detonator wires, batteries and seven hand grenades.

The woman LTTE suspect now in custody had been living in a section of the EPRLF office in Batticaloa.

A senior LTTE cadre called Siva Kumar who had been in a bakery in Batticaloa had also escaped when the police raided the bakery, dropping a pistol from his waist in his hurry to escape the police. 

According to police investigations Jayaprakash and Siva Kumar had been involved in killing seven members of the "Razeek Group" in Batticaloa district.

The LTTE cadres had collected these explosives to bring them to Colombo.
