President meets British Foreign Secretary [04 Dec 2000]

President Kumaratunga and Foreign Secretary Robin Cook held discussions at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London regarding issues which are of mutual interest to Sri Lanka and Britain including the Government's proposals for solving the ethnic issue.

Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in London, Mangala Moonesinghe was also associated with the discussions. 

President Kumaratunga also called on Mr. Richard Caborn, Minister of State for Trade to discuss investment prospects for British investors in Sri Lanka. Here, the many advantages and facilities for foreign investors in Sri Lanka were explained by President Kumaratunga to Minister Caborn. 

Minister Caborn were also invited to send a team of British experts to conduct a study on the power sector in Sri Lanka. 

Later President Kumaratunga was hosted to tea by the All Party Parliamentary Sri Lanka Group at the House of Parliament at a function organised by Lord Naseby, the Co-Chairman of the Group. 

On 29 November, President Kumaratunga called on Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and was accorded a warm reception. 

The President also attended the annual lunch hosted by the Friends of Sri Lanka Association the same day. Former British High Commissioner to Colombo, John Field, President of Friends of Sri Lanka warmly welcomed President Kumaratunga and Sri Lanka's High Commissioner Mangala Moonesinghe and Mrs. Moonesinghe, President Kumaratunga addressed the gathering and received a standing ovation at the conclusion of her address.
