UNP demo in Kandy against vote rigging

The United National Party (UNP) yesterday staged a demonstration in Kandy against intimidation and vote rigging in the Kandy district during the last general election.

Following the 46^th Annual Convention of the Party senior UNP leaders and party men gathered near the clock tower and blocked the road for a while holding placards and shouting slogans.

“The angry demonstrators called for a fresh election in the Kandy district and also urged the government to reduce the extra large number of ministries in the present cabinet to cut down waste and reduce the cost of living,” local newspapers reported.
