Meanwhile, according to the Tamil political have said that even the LTTE supremo realised the importance of finding a meaningful political settlement to the ongoing ethnic crisis.

The senior vice president of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and the Jaffna district MP, V. Anandasangari said, "both the Governmnt and the Oppositon party along with other important political parties should work out a positive conditon to launch the talks with the LTTE."

The leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and the minister Douglas Devananda quoted saying, "since the LTTE leader has mentioned his willingness for talks in his "Heroes Week" speech, those seeking a genuine settlement of the ethnic crisis should not be carried away that the right atmosphere has appeared for peace. We can not simply forget the past. Our party appreciates the stand taken by the LTTE leader to take part in talks, but it is too early to comment whether there would be a positive approach in his part for a peaceful settlement."
