War heroes' families receive compensation
[04 Dec 2000]

The closest relatives of 350 war heroes - disabled, killed and missing in action in the North and East received compensation under a special program implemented by the Sri Lanka Amy in association with the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Limited (SLICL).

" The lives of the fallen war heroes were an invaluable asset for the country. We are paying compensation to them not to estimate their lives in terms of money but to help their family members," Lt. General Balagalle added addressing the gathering at the Army Headquarters.

The immediate family members received a sum of Rs.1,00,000 under the Nana Jeevana Insurance scheme.

The Army Commander further stated that the family members of the fallen war heroes now benefit due to far sighted step taken by President Kumaratunga in 1995, by depositing funds from the President's Fund at the SLICL for the benefit of war heroes.
