"State Intelligence officers have alerted the Sri Lankan Air Force and Navy to be on the lookout for a ship carrying arms for the LTTE, local media reported quoting highly-placed sources," revealed the Hindu. LTTE's theoretician Anton Balasingham accused the government for strengthening the armed forces after the Tigers have offered the olive branch for peace talks while Lankan authorities was warned of a ship carrying arms for the LTTE was heading for the Lankan shores. The vessel which is said to be 400 nautical miles north-east of the country is reported to be containing latest weapons including anti-aircraft missiles. Meanwhile, Mr. Balasingham addressing their Heroes Day in London accused the government for strengthening the armed forces and insisted on troops withdrawals or a ceasefire as a pre-condition before any peace talks. However, according to political sources the LTTE had not informed the government officially their willingness for any peace talks. "It is clear that the LTTE is doing their best to show the world how genuine they are for peace talks while discreetly strengthening their troops," political sources said referring to the news about the arms ship adding that this had been the way of the LTTE in the past. "It had been them who had broken the peace process in all the attempts of the present government as well as during the previous regime after strengthening themselves with arms and men during the ceasefire period". "The LTTE is now highlighting the need for a troops withdrawal to speed up the process of strengthening themselves with arms to back off from any peace talks," political observers pointed out. "The absence of any government troops would no doubt give them complete freedom to brace up for their major attack against the peace process," they said adding that they are now attempting to gain international attention on how genuine their effort for peace is while trying to tarnish the government's image and stop them from strengthening for any surprise LTTE attacks. "This new wave of propaganda for peace talks would last only until their arm ships are unloaded and they are strengthened for fresh attacks," they said.
