LTTE bomb hits another civilian bus
[07 Dec 2000]

The LTTE terrorists blasted another civilian bus yesterday afternoon five kilometres North of Batticaloa killing two civilians and a policeman and injuring 23 others.

The incident occurred at about 1.10 p.m. at a point between Sathurukondavil and Pillayaradi.

The bus belonging to the Batticaloa was hit and crashed into the nearby lagoon following the blast.

Three doctors attached to the Batticaloa Government hospital returning to Colombo on leave had been among the 20 people wounded.

The claymore mine attack came just a week after the LTTE blasted a crowded private passenger bus on its way from Siripura to Anuradhapura on November 28 killing seven passengers including one school girl and wounding 27 others at Herath Halmillewa.

The LTTE also blasted a military bus plying from Vavuniya to Mannar at Pareyanalankulam and a Naval truck plying on the Trincomalee -Kuchchaveli at Kumburupiddi last Thursday killing 14 Security Forces personnel and seriously wounding 21 others.

The death toll from LTTE mines during the last nine days increased to 24 while the number of wounded persons increased to 71 with this blast.
