Kadirgamar and US Ambassador Ashley Wills jointly unveiled the plaque to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the United States at the US Embassy
premis.
The United States
and Sri Lanka mark 50 years of diplomatic relationship, this year. Foreign
Affairs Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and American Ambassador Ashley Wills
jointly unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion at the American Embassy
premises, yesterday.
The
relationship between the two countries goes a long way dating back to the
arrival of American missionaries to Sri Lanka in the 1800's.
The
Minister further said that there are many other connections between the
two countries. The first American ship came to the Galle port in 1850, he
said.
The
Ambassador noted in his speech that both the countries went through
historic changes within this period and the bilateral relations have
improved over the years.
