The Paris Development Forum to be held next week, will lay special emphasis on four major areas of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Reconciliation, Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation, Governance and Tertiary Education Reforms, Constitutional Affairs and Industrial Development Minister, Prof. G L Peiris said on Wednesday. According to Prof. Peiris with regard to rehabilitation reconstruction and reconciliation, focus will be placed on gradual incremental steps to be taken on a continuing basis without deferring these efforts till the full advent of peace. Samurdhi and poverty alleviation will be reviewed with issues relating to targeting, sustainability and equity. Issues connected to governance will receive the attention of the forum with the government taking the position that important institutions of governance such as the Elections Commission being guaranteed independent status under the proposed new constitution. In the sphere of educational reforms attention will be focused on introducing new areas in science and technology and English which will boost technology and development and consolidate the many advantages Sri Lanka enjoys in relation to human resources, Prof. Peiris said.
