A countrywide program to ensure that all children of school going age attend school will be launched from January 2001, Additional Secretary to the Ministry said. Surveys have revealed that more than 60,000 children of the school going age are not attending school at present. In addition to such children there are children in great numbers who had dropped out of school for various reasons. A separate scheme to bring such children also back to schools will be launched in year 2001. Under the new educational reforms introduce by the government it is hope to remedy most shortcomings in the education sector and make our future generation creative thinkers who will make maximum use of their thinking power, the Additional Secretary added. A new project to develop three hundred selected schools up to the standard of national schools at zonal level will also be launched next year, Ministry sources revealed.
