Sri Lanka's stand is a positive sign to start peace talks says Norwegian spokesman

Referring to the statement made by the Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar that the Sri Lankan Government was ready to commence political talks forthwith, while fighting was on with the LTTE, the spokesman for the Norwegian mission in Colombo Thomas Stangeland told that the Oslo government considers it as a positive step to commence political negotiation.

"We hope the two parties will manage to overcome any obstacle that may remain before they meet," Thomas said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister, Kadirgamar said that Sri Lanka hopes that the Oslo government will inform the LTTE of Sri Lanka's stand on having talks forthwith and taking speedy measures to bring both parties to the negotiating table.
