The Sri Lanka Development Forum commences at the World Bank building in Paris Today. Twenty-five donor countries and agencies will participate at the forum. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is expected to address the gathering. She will elaborate on the Government's policies, development initiatives, and peace efforts. The forum, which was formerly known as the Paris Aid Club, will continue discussions today and tomorrow, with emphasis on four core issues: Rehabilitation, reconstruction and reconciliation, Governance, Tertiary Education reforms and Poverty alleviation programme (Samurdhi). Further the Government delegation will make a special statement on its economic performance during the previous year including the percentage of growth and efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit. The donor countries and organisations are expected to indicate their financial support to Sri Lanka for the coming year tomorrow afternoon. President Kumaratunga and Industrial Development and Constitutional Affairs Minister, G.L.Peiris held official discussions with World Bank officials yesterday. Sources said the donor countries and agencies have indicated their fullest support to the Government 's development and peace efforts. The Lankan delegation includes Minister Mangala Samaraweera, S.B Disssanayake, Indika Gunawardane, Governor of the Central Bank, Secretary to the treasury P.B Jayasundera and Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Faiz Mohindeen.
