Three senior LTTE leaders killed in Kinihira-5

Three senior LTTE military wing leaders were killed in operation Kinihira-5 stage -2 in the Jaffna peninsula, the defence ministry sources revealed.

Sources further reported that the senior LTTE leader Madi who headed the mortar unit is among the 26 LTTE cadres who were killed in the operation.

Due to the LTTE attacks the Army also lost 12 soldiers including an officer while 38 were wounded.

The LTTE radio transmissions also confirmed that 34 LTTE cadres were wounded by the Government troops as the security forces captured another 11 square kilometres encompassing Madhuvil North and Nunavil.

According to the sources this includes approximately three kilometres of the A 9 highway linking Chavakachcheri and Kaithadi bridge and another three kilometres of the B-70 highway linking Point Pedro and Sarasalai of the A-9 highway. The entire B-70 highway from Point Pedro to the A-9 highway has now been reopened.

The government forces are now consolidating their positions while clearing the newly captured areas.
