Army commander Lionel Balagalla had insisted the need to recruit more soldiers to the Army to defeat LTTE militarily. He had urged the National Movement Against Terrorism (NMAT) to help recruit more soldiers to the Army to fight the war to achieve the military victory they demand, sources reported. The National Movement Against Terrorism recently held a protest campaign in front of the Fort rail way station - in the heart of Colombo- against any form of peace talks with LTTE, the group of terrorists which comes among world's top ten terrorist groups. The commander met a three-member delegation of the NMAT at the Army Headquarters. The delegation comprised of Ven. Haddigalle Vimalasara thero, who staged a fast unto death against the proposed constitution some time back, Dr. Lincoln Bastien and Mala Shivanthi. The delegation firmly objected talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and any form of foreign mediation. Further the sources revealed that the NMAT had forwarded a memorandum to the forces urging them to fight on without being cowed by false pease negotiators who use new words like "de-escalation of war and conducive environment for peace talks" instead of directly mentioning cease-fire.
