Development forum promises over 1000 million US dollars

Sri Lanka will receive over 1000 million US dollars as aid from the Sri Lanka Development Forum which met in Paris on December 18 and 19. This was disclosed by Deputy Finance Minister and Minister of Samurdhi, Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs, S.B.Dissanayake. 

The Minister said that this sum is overall figure agreed by 24 countries and representative organisations. The sources revealed that this sum is the highest ever awarded to Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka Development Forum countries and organisations.

“ This is an indication of the confidence reposed in the Peoples Alliance Government led by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga by the international community, especially of the donor countries of the world”, stated Minister Dissanayake.

Further the Minister said that the donor countries highly appreciated the goals and success of the Samurdhi Programme, which was launched by the PA government to alleviate and eliminate poverty.
