Sihala Urumaya insisted that the government should not reciprocate the bogus gesture of the LTTE in declaring a cessation of hostilities and further urged the government to take all possible action to defeat the LTTE by military means. A Sihala Urumaya press release stated: "After the fall of the Elephant Pass Camp Complex, our heroic armed forces have gained important victories over the LTTE with operation ‘Kinihira I to VII’. At the same time the LTTE operation ‘Unceasing Waves I-V’ (the last was launched on 26th November) to take full control of the Jaffna peninsula had ended in miserable failure. Their recruitment campaign in the east also had been a flop. They have also lost a large number of cadres in these battles and many more disabled. "Our forces have been able to gain the upper hand in Jaffna as they were provided with (long overdue) sophisticated weapon systems such as MBRLS, attack aircrafts, helicopters etc. Our forces have proved that they are second to none in the world in conducting battles when adequately provided with the necessary men and equipment, placed in the hands of genuine Generals. "It is also clear that Velupillai Prabhakaran and his murderous LTTE are badly in need of a reprieve from the battle front in order to re-group, re-equip and also to recruit more cadres to continue in their journey of destruction. Furthermore past experience show us that every time a ceasefire was declared it was only the LTTE that benefited from it. Furthermore they unilaterally broke the ceasefire which was agreed upon with the government in order to immunize innocent children in the north and east from the dreaded disease of Polio. Can such murderers be trusted? Therefore Sihala Urumaya insists that the government should not reciprocate this bogus gesture of the LTTE in declaring a cessation of hostilities. ‘Sihala Urumaya also urges the government most forcefully to take all possible action to defeat by military means the LTTE rebellion in the north and east of the country. "We also warn in strongest possible terms the co-called international community not to force the Sri Lanka government to agree to this bogus cessation of hostilities which has proven many times in the past had only resulted in strengthening the LTTE and thereby causing more destruction in the country".
