LTTE continues to violate own truce
[29 Dec 2000]

The LTTE again violated its own ceasefire for the second day after firing mortars on to the forward Defence Lines of Eluthumadduval killing two soldiers and wounding another.

Terrorists have also fired mortars into the FDLs of Nunavil West on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Eelam People's Democratic Party in a Press Release on Wednesday said,  'It is however saddening to note that the unilateral declaration of ceasefire by the Tigers refers to only sagging of armed conflict against the security forces. It would only avoid direct confrontation with the armed forces, but what was expected of was cessation of hostilities in every respect'.

'What is expected of is that the desire for ceasefire should be sincere, and an end to the immense sufferings of the people.

'It would be meaningful, if the ceasefire is practised in every respect. A ceasefire should not only restore normalcy but also ensure that there is no threat to the lives of the civilians. The need of the hour is a cessation of hostilities'.
