The security forces are doing their best possible to weaken the LTTE military operations to capture LTTE held areas, said Power and Energy Minister and Deputy Defence Minister General Anuruddha Ratwatta. He further stated that the only way of bringing the LTTE to the negotiating table to search for a fair solution to the ethnic problem is to weaken them militarily. He said that the LTTE tried to strengthen their weakened military power by declaring a "deceitful unilateral cease-fire" to de-escalate the Security Forces'. The Minister emphasised the fact that the Government is not fighting the war to provide a solution to the North East problem, but to protect the rights of the majority of people in the North, as the LTTE compelled the government to wage the war. The Government of Sri Lanka is committed to provide a fair solution to the North East problem while protecting the rights of the majority of people in the country, he said.
