UNP and Sihala Urumaya absent when Emergency passed in Parliament

The main opposition party and Sihala Urumaya were absent at the time of voting for the Emergency in Parliament yesterday, political sources revealed.

The motion to extend the Emergency was passed in Parliament by a majority of 94 votes with 110 voting for and 16 against.

The EPDP, NUA and CWC have voted with the government while the JVP, TULF, TELO and ACTC voted against.
