[13 Jan 2001]

The Government’s talks with Norwegian special envoy Erik Solheim was described as encouraging by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, yesterday.

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga together with Foreign Affairs Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar held talks with Erik Solheim and Norwegian Ambassador, Jon Westborg.

However, the Ministry communiqué asserted that there would be no ceasefire and the discussions focussed on taking forward the ongoing negotiation process with the LTTE.

Solheim, who left the country early yesterday, is to take part in another round of discussions with the Government after discussing matters further with the LTTE.
