Operation  "Kinihira" demoralized LTTE
[15 Jan 2001]

The LTTE, Tamil terrorist organisation which is identified as one of the world's dangerous and ruthless guerrilla organisations, has recently faced a severe blow as their leaders abandoned the LTTE strongholds in north and east of Sri Lanka during the "Kinihira" operations.

The functioning of the LTTE military machinery is also facing a bitter threat, as there is a tendency among its cadres to leave the organisation.

In Batticoloa where heavy fighting continues a cadre, Mahendrarajah Maheswaran alias Ravikulan [18 years] of School lane Nawalady, surrendered through ICRC to Brigade Headquarters Batticaloa on January 13.

It is believed that more LTTE cadres are expected to surrender to Security Forces because of frustration with their organisation.

Meanwhile the LTTE had reportedly violated their so called 'ceasefire' in over thirty incidents since they declared the unilateral ceasefire, the sources reported.

According to military sources, on 12th January, around 9 p.m. in general area, South of Eluthumadduuval in Jaffna Peninsula two soldiers sustained minor injuries due to terrorists' mortar fire.

Army engineers recovered and defused 35 anti-personnel mines whilst clearing the recaptured areas in Jaffna peninsula.
