The Ministry of Vocational Training will introduce a Competency Based Training [CBT] under the ADB funded, skills development project of the Ministry. This training will make partnership between vocational training institutions and the private sector. The initial workshop regarding the project was held at the Hotel Galadari, Colombo, on January 12th. The workshop was participated by heads of leading training institutions and representatives of business enterprises. The main objective of the workshop was to identify employable vocations that are in demand both locally and overseas and to provide employment opportunities for all Vocational Training graduates who pass out. The SDP Project Director Dr T A G Gunasekere said, "existing 25 vocational training courses will be converted into CBT format, and 20 new courses will be introduced." The CBT format will be adhered and introduced in the Vocational Training Authority, the Department of Technical Education and Training, the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, the National Institute of Technical Education, the National apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, the National Youth Services Council and several private sector training institutions.
