With the LTTE’s unilateral ceasefire coming to an end on January 24, Minister of Information and Media, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said yesterday there will be no change in the Government’s stand on the war against the terrorists until the Organisation puts forward some constructive proposals. Explaining the Government's stance regarding the LTTE-ceasefire, the Minister said at a press briefing yesterday that the “ Government was always ready. The LTTE must put forward some constructive proposals so that the Government could consider them and take a decision on the matter.” Meanwhile, military spokesman Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne outlining the progress of Operation Kinihira IX launched on January16 said the Army with air and sea support by the Air Force and the Navy recaptured seven square kilometres of enemy territory in the Jaffna area during the first two days of its offensive against the LTTE bringing the total area under Army control to 139 square kilometres. Army casualties on the first two days stood at two officers and 52 men killed and nine officers and 232 soldiers wounded, sources said.
