India demands action against militant groups
[23 Jan 2001]

Indian officials and British security experts are scheduled to meet this week to talk about the activities of UK based anti-India extremist groups.

India is likely to demand action against such groups, the identity of many whom is already known to the British government. At present in the UK training and fund-raising is not an offence, with the result that extremist groups have been operating with impunity.

Meanwhile, according to UK officials a team of security experts was going to India as a part of a regular ‘dialogue’ between the two countries on a ‘range’ of security related issues. It was not related to any specific issues, they said.
