The housing development project initiated by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, to provide housing for service personnel engaged in the north east war in their home areas has made good progress. Already around 150 houses have been constructed in six electorates and a master plan has been drawn up to construct 300 houses in 12 electorates within the next two months, Chairman, Ranaviru Housing and Skills Development, Armyne Wirasinha said. At least 1000 houses would be constructed in about 40 electorates island wide by the end of this year. A unique feature of this project is that housing is provided to service personnel who already possess a block of land and are in need of assistance to build a house
