Around 100 foreign and local tourism and travel personalities will be participating at the event titled "Bio-Diversity: Challenges for this Century".

Sri Lanka is one of the most bio-diverse eco-travel destinations with its historical stand in wildlife conservation in Mihintale that dates back 3 BC.

The high level of biodiversity in the country contains 242 known species of butterflies, 435 recorded birds, 92 species of mammals, 107 species of fish, 54 species of amphibians, 74 species of tetrapod reptiles and 81 species of snakes.

Sri Lanka is considered as an ideal venue for the event, targeting a high-yield of eco-tourists with its rich bio-diversity and cultural attractions.

The bio-diversity in Sri Lanka is said to be greater per square kilometer of surface than any other country in Asia.
