Grenades thrown at Oxfam office

The British charity Oxfam in Colombo was attacked by two hand grenades thrown by two unidentified persons, early yesterday morning.

Oxfam is and NGO engaged in refugee rehabilitation projects in Sri Lanka, with offices in Colombo, Jaffna and Trincomalee.

Two vehicles parked in the premises and windows were damaged.

The unidentified persons had come on a motorcycle to carry out the attack.

According to a statement faxed to local media, an extremist group had claimed responsibility for the pre-dawn grenade attack.

Meanwhile, a special police team has been appointed to trace the suspects involved in the attack.
