President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge has instructed the Inspector General of Police to conduct an immediate investigation into the attack at the UNP Pada Yathra campaign at Molagoda in Kegalla, a Presidential Secretariat communiqué stated. The President has further instructed the IGP to investigate whether this type of incident has occurred due to some opportunistic group trying to gain narrow political mileage by indulging in such disruptive acts despite her personal appeals to all Peoples’ Alliance organizers and security sections to refrain from causing any obstructions to Pada Yathra campaign. The President has also instructed the IGP to strengthen security and to ensure the protection of all participants of this campaign during the next few days.
