Appropriation bill to be presented to parliament today

The appropriation bill for the second year of the ruling People's Alliance government is to be presented to parliament, by co-Deputy Finance Minister G.L Peiris today, Finance Ministry sources revealed.

According to economic analysts the anticipated budget deficit for this year will be over 10% of the GDP.

The Central Bank sources said that the budget deficit for the year 2000 was Rs.102 billion, which is 8.1 per cent of the GDP, but it had later risen to over 10% of the GDP.

The IMF had advised the government to sustain the budget deficit, the estimated revenue for below 7.5 of the GDP.
