Lankan group appeals to empower UN convention

The Canadian Association for a United Sri Lanka (CAUS) has made an appeal to the Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien to immediately ratify the UN international convention for the suppression of financing of terrorism.

The Sri Lankan organisation has also reminded the premier the Canadian Security Intelligence Services (CSIS) have uncovered evidence to show that some non-profit groups in Canada are fronts for organisations such as the LTTE.

Further the CSIS analysts describe how money is being channelled from companies and non profit groups in Canada to LTTE's weapons purchasing arm in Thailand.

The Sri Lankan group appeals to Premier to take whatever action necessary to ensure that the legislation to combat the financing of international terrorism in Canada is passed without delay.

"We in Canada by being silent, have become a major part of the problem" the Sri Lankan group reminded the Canadian Prime Minister.
