[08 Feb 2001]

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga under section 22 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has directed that both Sinhala and Tamil be used as languages of administration in the Colombo and Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretary’s Divisions, a Government Communiqué stated.

This is with the objective of eliminating the difficulties that the Tamil and Muslim communities living in the Colombo and Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretary’s Divisions have to face in transacting their day-to-day business.
