The Deputy Defence Minister, Anuruddha Ratwatte said in Parliament yesterday that there have been 64 incidents by the LTTE violating their own extended cease-fire. The Defence Minister stated this while proposing the extension of the state of emergency. He further said that at least 492 security personnel were wounded and 76 killed in action during the month of January. Large areas of the lands invaded by the LTTE in Jaffna during the months of April and May have been regained by troops. Our valiant soldiers in Jaffna peninsula are continuing to clear more areas, he said. Meanwhile, the LTTE continue their attacks on innocent civilians in other areas. Several incidents have been reported including the LTTE killing of a farmer and a fisherman, the Deputy Defence Minister said.
